Wind-tamer John Duff makes it look easy as he scores sixth NE Alliance win of season

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Newmachar tour pro John Duff scored his sixth win of the North-east Alliance season with a typical, down-the-middle round of 73 which was four over par for the Murcar Links winter course but a great effort in the context of the wild west wind, laced with rain, which buffeted the field of 70.

There were 19 No returns and the clubhouse was awash with horror stories of many balls lost but Duff, pictured, carved out 14 pars and four bogeys.
John is too modest a guy to blow his own trumpet. When asked what is the secret of chalking up six wins, he said: "Nothing fancy, Just kept it on the fairway. Some of the greens were out of reach in regulation due to the wind and though I did not get a birdie I avoided anything more than a bogey at any hole."
Duff, who bogeyed the third, eighth, 11th and 14th in halves of 37 and 36, won £140 due to the "Race to Dubford" sponsorship which added £10 to all the prizes.
He won by two shots from two scratch amateurs, former Aberdeen Links champion Stuart Finnie (Caledonian), 37-38, and Peterhead's Drew Buchan (38-37).
